We are most grateful to the directorate of the Pasat Arkeologi Nasional Indonesia for the opportunity to study the Liang Bua material. This material was excavated by an Indonesian/ Australian team as part of the program “Astride the Wallace Line: 1.5 million years of human evolution, dispersal, culture and environmental change in Indonesia.” under the direction of Mike Morwood. Together with Gert van der Bergh he enticed the study of the Liang Bua micromammal assemblage. Eelco Kruideniers made the photographs in Fig. 1. Israel Garcia Paredes assisted with the statistical analyses, and commented on our manuscript. The help of all these colleagues is gratefully acknowledged.
