| Abstract | Jan van Krimpen was one of the leading Dutch typographers of his time. His legacy as a designer of books and types offers insight into his many contacts. The collection includes correspondence with fellow designers, with the British producer of typesetting machines Monotype Corporation (nowadays Stanley Morison) and with other literary men with whom he was on friendly terms, such as the poets Jan van Nijlen and J.C. Bloem. Van Krimpen was very interested in literature and was involved in the effectuation of several literary publications both professionally as a designer and personally. Besides this, the collection contains calligraphy and working drawings of types. This collection enables research into the way Van Krimpen designed types as well as into his views on graphic design. |
